How do I choose and order the right diagnostic device kit?

Short answer

You don't need every device to start. Omply lets a doctor examine you remotely using small home diagnostic devices that connect to the Omply app — but which devices you need depends on the symptoms you most often want checked. This guide maps common symptoms to the right device, explains how to build a kit, and walks through ordering.

If you're unsure, a stethoscope + pulse oximeter + thermometer covers the most common reasons people use Omply (coughs, breathing, fevers, infections). You can always add more devices later.

Why devices matter (and how Omply is different from a video call)

A standard video appointment only lets a doctor see and talk to you. With Omply's diagnostic devices, the doctor can run a real clinical examination from your home — listening to your heart and lungs, looking inside your ears, and reading your temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and oxygen levels in real time. That often means a diagnosis and treatment (including a prescription, if needed) in a single visit, without an in-person follow-up.

The devices pair with the app over Bluetooth and stream readings live to the doctor during your appointment.

The devices and what each one is for

Device What the doctor can check Best for these symptoms
Digital stethoscope Listens to heart and lung sounds in real time; detects abnormal breathing sounds, heart murmurs, and arrhythmias Cough, shortness of breath, chest tightness, wheezing, suspected chest infection, heart-rhythm concerns
Digital otoscope Clear, zoomable view of the eardrum, ear canal, and small skin changes Ear pain, suspected ear infection (especially in children), blocked ear, skin spots/rashes
Pulse oximeter Measures blood-oxygen saturation (SpO₂) and pulse rate Breathing difficulty, respiratory infections, fatigue, checking how well lungs/heart are coping
Blood pressure monitor Reads blood pressure and pulse Dizziness, headaches, palpitations, monitoring known high/low blood pressure
Thermometer Fast, accurate body-temperature reading Fever, suspected infection, general feeling unwell

"Which device do I need?" — symptom quick-reference

  • Child with an earache → Otoscope
  • Cough or shortness of breath → Stethoscope + Pulse oximeter
  • Fever or "coming down with something" → Thermometer (+ Pulse oximeter if breathing feels off)
  • Dizziness, headaches, or palpitations → Blood pressure monitor
  • Skin spot, rash, or minor lesion → Otoscope (zoom/close-up view)
  • General respiratory illness in the household → Stethoscope + Pulse oximeter + Thermometer

You can show a symptom in the app even without the matching device — but having the right device on hand is what lets the doctor complete a full examination in one visit.

Building your kit: start small or go complete

You have two sensible starting points:

Starter kit (most common needs). Stethoscope, pulse oximeter, and thermometer. Covers the majority of everyday reasons people reach for Omply — respiratory infections, fevers, coughs.

Family / complete kit. Add the otoscope (great for households with children) and the blood pressure monitor (for anyone monitoring cardiovascular concerns). One kit can serve a whole household — devices aren't tied to a single person.

Not all devices are needed for a first visit. Many appointments can be handled with one or two devices, so it's fine to begin with the starter set and expand as your needs become clear.

What devices cost

You can browse and buy everything in the Omply shop, where you'll always find the up-to-date prices. Devices are sold individually or as bundles:

Bundles are usually better value than buying the same devices one at a time, and the larger the kit, the more you save overall — so if you expect to need several devices, a package is often the smarter choice in the long run. Check the Omply shop for current prices and exactly what each bundle includes.

A remote appointment is priced separately and may be partly reimbursed by Kela for eligible users in Finland. See How does payment work in the Omply app? and How do I pay for my appointment?.

You don't always need the kit for a first visit. See Do I always need the device kit before my first appointment? Does Omply work without it?.

Family sharing

A single Omply device kit can be used by everyone in your household — for example, the otoscope for a child's earache and the stethoscope for an adult's cough. See Can the same devices be used by the whole family? and How do I handle matters on behalf of my child?.
