How does Kela reimbursement work for Omply visits and prescriptions?
Short answer
If you live in Finland and are covered by Kela, a remote doctor's appointment with Omply qualifies for partial Kela reimbursement, the same way a private clinic visit does. With Omply this happens automatically through Kela direct reimbursement (suorakorvaus): the Kela share is deducted when you're invoiced, so you only ever pay your own share — there's nothing to claim back afterward. Any prescription you receive is sent electronically and appears in Omakanta.
For how payment itself works, see How does payment work in the Omply app?.
What can be reimbursed
The appointment. Kela reimburses part of the fee for a private doctor's appointment, including remote appointments. The Kela reimbursement reduces what you ultimately pay, but it does not cover the full fee — you pay the remainder yourself. The appointment price is shown in the app before you confirm.
Prescriptions / medicines. If the doctor prescribes medication, the medicine itself may be reimbursed at the pharmacy under Kela's standard medicine reimbursement, separate from the appointment reimbursement. You collect the medicine using your prescription, which is stored electronically.
What's typically not reimbursed: the cost of the diagnostic devices themselves, and any portion above the Kela-set reference amounts.
How you receive the reimbursement
It's automatic — you don't need to do anything. Omply uses Kela direct reimbursement (suorakorvaus): when your appointment is invoiced, Kela's share is deducted directly and you pay only your own portion. You don't pay the full fee up front or file a separate claim with Kela.
This works because Omply currently requires all of its doctors to hold a valid Kela direct-reimbursement agreement, so every eligible patient gets the deduction. (This may change in future — Omply's roadmap will later also welcome doctors who don't yet have Kela eligibility; that will be announced separately, so it's worth checking your appointment details.)
You can see and keep the receipt in the app — see How do I pay for my appointment?. For background on what direct reimbursement is, see What is Kela direct reimbursement and when do you need it? (written for doctors, but it explains the concept clearly).
Prescriptions and Omakanta
Prescriptions issued during an Omply appointment are electronic and viewable in your national health record via Omakanta. For details on getting a prescription through the service, see Can I get a prescription through Omply?.
If you don't have Finnish bank credentials or aren't covered by Kela
Reimbursement depends on Kela eligibility. If you're not covered by Finnish social insurance, you pay the full appointment price and won't receive a Kela reimbursement. For login without Finnish bank credentials, see I don't have Finnish bank credentials. How do I log in?.
