How to turn on queue alerts
Queue alerts tell you on your phone when patients are waiting in the queue and no doctor is available, or when the queue is busy. That way you won't miss consultations just because the doctor view isn't open on your computer.
Alerts arrive in the Omply app on your phone. You always join the queue in the doctor view in your browser. The app doesn't replace that; it tells you when it's worth going to your computer.
What you need
- An approved Omply doctor account
- The Omply app on your phone (App Store or Google Play), signed in to the same account
- Access to the doctor view in a browser
1. Create a link code in the doctor view
- Sign in to the doctor view and open User Profile.
- Scroll to Notifications. If nothing is linked yet, you'll see "No mobile device linked."
- Click Link device.
- A 6-digit link code appears. It expires in a few minutes, so have your phone ready before you start.
2. Enter the code in the Omply app
- Open the Omply app on your phone and go to settings.
- Tap Link doctor account.
- Enter the 6-digit code from the doctor view and tap Link.
- When it works, the app confirms: "Device linked. Queue alerts will arrive on this phone."
The doctor view updates at the same time to "A mobile device is linked."
NOTE: your account can be linked to only one phone at a time. If you switch phones, create a new code in the doctor view and enter it on the new device.
3. Check that alerts are on
Once a device is linked, a Queue alerts enabled checkbox appears in the Notifications section of the doctor view. This is the master switch for alerts. Leave it checked to receive alerts. Clear it if you want to keep the device linked but stop alerts for now.
How to respond to an alert
When an alert arrives, your phone shows a notification titled Queue alert with one of these messages:
- "Patients are waiting and no doctors are available."
- "The queue is busy — more doctors are needed."
You have two ways to respond in the app:
- Accept: you're on your way. Go to your computer and join the queue in the doctor view.
- Can't make it: you can't take it right now. You won't get new alerts for the length of the mute period you've chosen.
Responding to an alert does not put you in the queue. You always join the queue in the doctor view in your browser. Remember too that joining the patient queue requires a 4–6 digit consultation PIN, which you set on the User Profile page.
How long alerts stay muted
You decide how long you're left alone after you tap Can't make it.
In the Notifications section of the doctor view, under "When I tap Unavailable, mute for", choose 15, 30 or 60 minutes. You won't receive new queue alerts during that time. While a mute is running, the doctor view shows how much of it is left.
Stopping alerts or switching phonesNew link code creates a fresh code when you want to start using a different phone.
Unlink device disconnects the phone completely. You won't receive queue alerts on any phone until you link a device again.
If alerts don't reach you
- Check that the doctor view says "A mobile device is linked" and that Queue alerts enabled is checked.
- Check that a mute isn't running. The doctor view tells you if alerts are muted and for how long.
- Check that you've allowed notifications for the Omply app in your phone's settings.
- Check that you're signed in to the same account in the app as in the doctor view.
- If the code is rejected, it has most likely expired. Create a new one in the doctor view and enter it right away.
Queue alerts are never sent by text message. They arrive only in the Omply app.
