What should I expect during and after my first Omply appointment?
Short answer
An Omply appointment is a real remote clinical examination, not just a video call. You select your symptom themes from the app's menus, connect with a doctor, and they guide you through any device measurements live. In most cases the doctor can diagnose and start treatment — including a prescription if needed — in that single visit. Afterward, your prescription appears in Omakanta and you'll have clear care instructions.

Before the appointment
- Set up your account and app, and make sure you can log in — see I can't log in. What should I do?.
- Charge and pair your devices if you have them. You don't always need the kit for a first visit — see Do I always need the device kit before my first appointment? Does Omply work without it?.
- Add a payment method — see How do I add or change payment details in the app?.
- Sit somewhere quiet, well-lit, with a stable internet connection.
What happens during the appointment — step by step
- Select your symptom themes from the menus in the app to start a request. You choose from preset options rather than writing a free description; this lets the doctor know why you're getting in touch before the appointment begins. (This information can also help direct you to a suitable doctor, though that routing isn't available at all times.)
- Connect with a doctor. Omply is on-demand, so you don't book a fixed slot — you're connected when a doctor is available. See How quickly can I see a doctor through Omply? and How does doctor selection work on Omply?.
- Talk and be examined. The doctor speaks with you over video and, if relevant, guides you through device measurements in real time — see Step-by-step guide: using each diagnostic device during an appointment.
- Get a diagnosis and plan. The doctor explains findings and next steps.
- Receive a prescription or referral if needed — see Can I get a prescription through Omply?.
- Pay for the visit in the app — see How do I pay for my appointment?.
If audio, video, or a measurement has trouble mid-visit, see I can't hear the doctor's voice or the doctor can't hear me, The video connection is choppy or doesn't connect at all, and What happens if a measurement fails during the appointment?.
After the appointment
- Prescriptions are electronic and visible in Omakanta; collect medicine at any pharmacy.
- Care instructions are provided during the visit — follow them as given.
- Reimbursement: if you're covered by Kela, part of the fee is reimbursed automatically — see How does Kela reimbursement work for Omply visits and prescriptions?.
- Follow-up: if symptoms persist or change, you can start a new appointment.
When to choose an in-person visit instead
Remote care suits many common issues, but not everything. For emergencies, call 112. For when remote care is and isn't appropriate, see Can Omply replace a traditional clinic visit?. The doctor will also tell you if you should be seen in person.
Acting for a family member
You can manage appointments for others you're responsible for — your child, a dependent or ward, or someone you care for as an informal (family) carer. The same process applies in all of these cases. See How do I handle matters on behalf of my child? and Can elderly people or children use the service?.
